Through to Challenge 5:

Nostalgic moments and flashbacks to toys and TV shows feature in the nail designs created for Challenge 4 of the North America’s Star Nail Artist contest. The 13 remaining contestants rifled through their memory banks to sculpt and style striking works of art, in a bid to maintain their places in the competition and fight for the top title.

DECADE: The era that made me

Create a nail design inspired by the decade you were born into.

What does your decade look like when remembered, reimagined and refined?

THE TASK

Create five nails that collectively express your decade of birth. Each nail should represent a different element of that era, such as:

  • Culture or subculture.
  • Music or nightlife.
  • Fashion or beauty.
  • Technology or media.
  • Attitude or energy.

PRODUCT USE

You have been mailed products from The GelBottle Inc. Please ensure that you use at least three of these products to create your design, and showcase their use in your accompanying video.

JUDGING FOCUS:

  • Era recognition without cliché.
  • Creative reinterpretation.
  • Artistic range & innovation.
  • Are techniques, textures and forms varied?
  • Cohesion of the full set.

DELIVERABLES:

  1. Up to 15 high-quality photos of your nail design on a WHITE background: a close-up of each nail and photos with all 5 nails in view. Submit from the top, side and front angles. Do not alter or retouch these photos.
  2. A reel-style video (up to 5-minutes long) demonstrating your creative process, pro tips and techniques.
  3. Write-up: Share a written explanation of the inspirations behind your nail design. (800 words max.)

DEADLINE:

Images, write-up and video must be submitted by 17.00 PST on February 14.
